This girl is a reader. Amanda has been reading since before kindergarten, but it was just last year in kindergarten that she really took off! She was reading her brothers’ books and, well, anything that there was to read. She would read emails, text messages, signs, the Bible, and anything else she could get her hands on.
This year I made sure to find some good chapter books for her to start on. I find it to be a little tricky because she is in first grade and I don’t want to choose something that is either too difficult or too grown up themed. She’s been reading Amelia Bedelia. I remember loving those books and she seems to love them too. Amelia is always doing something silly!
Her brothers found and really like the Wimpy Kid series (check them out here! My kids love them!) this year and she has taken to it too. There are 11 books in the series now and they are all excited for the next one! I think she’s read each book at least 5 times. It amazes me how her love for reading surpasses getting bored reading the same books.
Today when Amanda got home from school, she quickly did her homework, got herself popcorn to snack on, and began to read one of her library books. She finished it so quickly that I didn’t get a pic! I asked her to grab another book and read so I could get a photo for today. Thankfully she did and allowed me to grab a photo!
Of course, she had no problems with finding a new book. She picked up J’s social studies book and began to learn about water and soil/land. She didn’t just pretend to read it for a photo, but she was really reading to learn. Amanda amazes me. I’m so lucky to be her momma!
