Aww!!! I was cleaning out my closet….this warm weather has me ready to spring clean and declutter, how about you? So I was cleaning out my closet and ran crossed this old notebook thing I got from 31 years ago. Maybe 7 years or so? I opened it to see if there was a anything of use inside or if I should chuck it. At first I saw some drawings on the top pages and as I kept digging I came crossed pages like this one…pages of treasure.
When we went to a different church several years ago , J would sit with me on days he didn’t feel like going to the classroom for Sunday school. I would always have a little something for him to do while I listened to the message. This was one of those little somethings. This pad of paper and some special pens.
I can’t tell you how much I loved getting little notes like this during church. But I can tell you that looking back on them now means so much more. A real treasure!
You know, as kids get older, they tend to argue more and push your buttons. They question your authority and make life difficult sometimes. But you never stop loving them and I know that they never stop loving us, even when the are yelling “f you” because you won’t let them play the xbox.
That same little kid that said I am the best mom ever is still inside there. And I am pretty sure that it is because there is a trust and faith that the love will always be there between us that allows them to test limits and learn independence and respect. It may not always feel like it in the moment, but I have faith that it will all work out.
So friends, what do we do with these small notebooks full of doodles and little messages? In an effort to be less cluttered I want to say get rid of it, but let’s be honest…that notepad will be that much meaningful in 10, 20 and 40 years. How can that be tossed?
